The Paulian Spirit
The ‘Paulian Spirit’ is unique in many ways. It is only in St. Paul’s that such a spirit exists. It reflects the love and sense of belonging to the school.
St. Paul’s is a great school and is well-known in Negeri Sembilan for its high achievements in academic and co-curricular activities. As for the ‘Paulian Spirit’, the Paulians have a great sense of belonging to the school. They feel proud being a Paulian. The ‘Paulian Spirit’ makes them very confident in all they do. The ‘Paulian Spirit’ makes them excel in their studies and achieve greater feats.
St. Paul’s Institution. The very sound of her name makes me feel warm and comfortable. My association with this great school began on 10th January 1949, the day I started my life as a Primary One pupil.
St. Paul’s brings back fond memories of the time I spent in school. After having left St. Paul’s 53 years ago, there is still the same sense of belonging to this great school, with its unique history and long standing traditions.
The Brothers who taught us always spoke about St. Paul’s and their founder - St. John Baptist De LaSalle. They always reminded us of the life and struggles of their founder. He was a man who was truly ordinary but led an extraordinary life. To change the world for the better, we start by changing ourselves, as St. John Baptist De LaSalle had done.
At this juncture, it must not be forgotten that this Paulian family is part of the larger family of La Sallians worldwide.

St. Paul’s is steeped and rich in history and heritage. We must treasure the past in order to cherish the present and embrace the future. Be true to yourself, loyal to the Alma Mater and steadfast in your belief. Uphold the good name and image of St. Paul’s and you will reap its benefits. Strive for excellence with the knowledge and confidence that you have the potential to succeed. Our rich heritage alone should be sufficient to inspire in us a spirit of pride and loyalty. Let us hope that the ‘Paulian Spirit’ will stay burning brightly in the hearts, minds and souls of the students forever and the history of the school cherished.
Leaving school does not mean you are no longer a Paulian. As long as the ‘Paulian Spirit’ still burns brightly in you, you are still part of this great and historic family. You just have to be a true Paulian to understand that.
I have to forcefully remind you of St. Paul’s unbroken traditions of excellence. Today St. Paul’s, a legendary name of tradition, is second to none in the country and stands tall and proud. The Paulian tradition goes back to 1899, and has stood the test of time - 113 years to be exact.
The new generation of administrators and teachers are challenged to preserve and enrich the ‘LaSallian’ spirit. Service has always been part of the Paulian tradition with special priority to the needs of the less fortunate young students and others who need help.
It was this tremendous ‘Paulian Spirit’ that prevailed among the LaSallian brothers and the members of the staff in yesteryears, many of whom were old Paulians. There was the single-mindedness among them into making St. Paul’s second to none.
The LaSallian Brothers, through their dedication and willingness to sacrifice for the glory of the school, have shown you the way and it is up to you to do your part.
Feel proud to be part of this privileged relationship with your students. Always try your best to uphold the ‘Paulian Spirit’. May the ‘Paulian Spirit’ shine brightly in you.
I have been a ‘Paulian’ since I stepped into St. Paul’s Institution (Primary) on the first day of my formal education in 1949 and there is no doubt that I’ll possess this significant identity until I breathe my last. Once a ‘Paulian’, always a ‘Paulian’!
